The Znovín winemakers have bagged yet another award, this time from Paris!

Winemakers from the Czech Republic won four Grand Gold, 13 Gold and 14 Silver medals at the Vinalies Internationales competition in Paris. The competition in the French capital was the first major wine competition of the year. Znovín Znojmo enjoyed the greatest success, winning two Grand Gold and two Gold medals. This was announced in a press release by the Wine Fund, which provides financial support for Czech winemakers’ participation in international competitions.

Winemakers from Moravia and Bohemia entered 88 wines into the competition, which went up against 3,000 competitors from 30 countries around the world. The wines were judged by a panel of 130 international experts. The Volařík Winery also brought home a Grand Gold medal from Paris, along with one gold medal, whilst the Kolby Winery won a Grand Gold medal and one silver medal.

“Vinalies Internationales is one of the world’s most prestigious competitions and is something of a Grand Slam amongst international wine competitions. The medals awarded are particularly valuable due to the strictly professional organisation of the judging process, the composition of the panels – comprising mainly oenologists – and the higher score thresholds for awarding medals, with a wine needing to score 93 out of 100 points for a Grand Gold and 89 points for a Gold,” said Pavel Krška from the National Wine Centre, who was one of the competition’s judges.

Vinalies Internationales is organised by the French Union of Oenologists under the auspices of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (O.I.V.) and forms part of the World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits Competitions (VINOFED).
